I like this! Have you considered starting Tommy Harden instead of Ramiro Mendoza? I find Tommy is a big help by giving you passive Cheatin' punishment and he rapidly ends up being cheaper than Mendoza by the time you add in upkeep and paying for Mendoza's trait.

It might also be worth splashing in some more Cheatin' actions - maybe a Bottom Dealin' or two as the values are fairly loose? That said it can be fun to just bluff Cheatin' punishment as sometimes you opponent will assume you have it!

Thanks! I tried starting Harden and I found that I needed Ramiro to handle aggressive decks. The way I play it is to have Ramiro fight on the first round ideally by stopping a job. If I get a Takin' Ya With Me I can sometimes take out 2 dudes. It's definitely missing cheatin' resolutions, though. Thanks for the suggestion.

Starting posses do indeed need to be tuned to local metas!

Could replacing Ramiro Mendoza with Jacqueline Isham and Jake Smiley work instead? Same cost by the time you include first turn's upkeep and paying Mendoza's trait. Only costs you one point of stud but gives you two dudes.

Yeah, I think those might be safer starters. He's high risk, high reward. I don't think about how much he costs me as much as I think about how much he can cost my opponent. If I can take a dude or just a round of production away he pays for himself in net production. Also, having that 3rd bullet really helps with takin' ya with me. If I start with that card and they don't have a counter it can turn a game first round by killing their main gunslinger. But I also don't play many competition quality decks who almost certainly have counters. Just getting booted home is pretty brutal.

It's a poker driven game so half the fun is finding the style that suits you. Extra bullet does make a big difference with Takin' Ya With Me, particularly if you can isolate a key 2-stud opposing shooter. Slightly ashamed to have suggested the prudent, cautious option. ;)

Just played the deck again and I was definitely regretting having Ramiro. He kept getting pistol whipped.

Nooo, I've jinxed you. ;)
