An introductory Fourth Ring Deck with 2x Base Set + There Comes a Reckoing. The four decks in this series can all be built at the same time, excluding the jokers (you'll have 4x jokers from two Base Sets, so you can switch them in to whichever two decks you're playing with).

Your main shooting values are 10, J and Q.

Your goals is to get some copies of Blood Curse in to play and use it to lower your opponent's influence while out manoeuvring your opponent with Shadow Walk to snatch control points, pull your opponent's dudes out of position and deny them income. The addition of There Comes a Reckoning gives you a more aggressive starting posse to experiment with, as Zeb Whateley-Dupont gives you a reliable stud shooter and Black Owl means that if you inflict casualties in a shootout you'll be getting rid of important dudes rather than bullet catchers. Additionally, deeds and goods on values with limited options in the base set (The Oriental Saloon,Hellstromme Plant #9 and Forsaken Hound) give you new options.

  • You have a positive net income each turn even if you lose lowball, so you can build safely unless your opponent has enough control points to win. This gives you time to wait for the right cards in your hand and to play more dudes/deeds. Remember you can spread your deeds either side of your home to help spread your opponent's dudes out. The The Sloane Gang home only generates control points after victory is checked: this can buy you an extra turn.
  • Use your home to cycle cards you don't need and replace them with cards you need and generate ghost rock.
  • Your Hucksters with Shadow Walk can move around town before your opponent can catch you. Use this to deny your opponent income and force them to move their dudes out of position to defend their income/control points.
  • Remember that you can only play Takin' Ya With Me if you lost the shootout and you're on higher values that the other learn to play decks, so you'll often be the winner if your hands are the same rank (for example, both Full Houses but they are 3s and 2s while you are Qs and 10s).

Expanding your collection

  • Faith & Fear (PB): gives you Valeria Batten – she’s Huckster 1, has 1 Influence and is a 0 stud (excellent back-up in a shootout as the bullet rating doesn’t matter if you’re not the posse's shooter) for only 4GR with 0 upkeep! She's a mainstay of Fourth Ring starting posses.

  • Double Dealin’ (SB): Leonardo "Leon" Cavallo is a strong control dude – he’s a Huckster 1 with 2 Influence for 5GR with 1 upkeep, so you can fit him in to your starting posse. His ability is powerful: he can boot to target dudes at his location/adjacent locations and boot them if you pull equal to their value or higher.
