First up congrats to Jeff who won with 8-J-Q Fourth Ring who drove out to SD from Phoenix AZ. Second, thank you everyone for making this a very fun event and special thank you to Glen Smallman for his hard work in organizing not only the sheriff event but all Doomtown related things in SD.

On to the event itself. Although this may be a bias'd point of view but I felt this was a very competitive event, every opponent I played against was very strong, had a very tuned deck and knew the rules and meta quite well.

Round 1 I played fellow local player Corby. Very tight game but ultimately I was able to pull him in to unfavorable shootouts.

Round 2 I played against my wife Kristina who has a way of always punishing me with a bounty hunter law dog deck.

Round 3 I faced the ultimate winner Jeff playing the typical 8-J-Q Fourth Ring deck. I think this was close to time and he was forced to stay in a shootout with a bad draw that I was ultimately able to seal victory.

Last round 4 I played against Richard running Arsenal/Miracle deck that seemed to have a lot of unbooting actions and anti-abomination (I was quite scared since this is exactly the opposite of what I wanted to see) this match was a flurry of shootouts and I believe this was a three turn game that almost went to time. Excellent game and very close but ultimately I was able to trade favorably and was able to just keep pumping out abominations.

Cut to top 4 being undefeated I faced 4th seed another Miracle deck piloted by Tucker that I was able to quickly dismantle with favorable shootout and opening hand Undertaker along with Buried Treasure was able to seal his fate.

Final match was a rematch with Jeff. My opening hand was Rapier, Paralysis Mark, It's not what you know.., and like 2 expensive dudes I could not afford. I felt this was worth grifting away with travis moone. Sadly my hand was even worse. It was something like this'll hurt in the morning x2, Hex Slingin', Ivor Hawley, and another expensive dude. Since we are both 4RC I was unable to unload my hand to cycle so I was stalled 2 turns in a row. Ultimately this set back stalled me long enough that I was never able to get my engine going thus Jeff took the win.

Overall I felt this deck was very powerful but still needs work. I have under 15 games with this deck. Original idea came from here on dtdb from Gozik, mplain, and watching a couple videos from swider vs mplain.

I realized buried treasure is more important than undertaker but undertaker is still very strong especially if you draw them together.

Lastly, I know this is beating a dead horse but I do think 4RC is an unfair deck especially paralysis mark. It really drags the game out especially for a 40 minute timed tournament match. My only suggestion to the game designers is possibly limiting 1 of the same name of a spell to a huckster or item in general. Seems silly to be able to put 3 paralysis mark, 2 soul cages, and 2 shadow walks on the same huckster.

Thanks for the shout out! It was one heck of a final. Considering you were the only one who beat me in rounds (not just beat me, but steam rolled me), I can't even begin to say how nervous I was having to go against you a second time.

I also agree control really boss the game down. I'm not sure how much a "no duplicate spell" rule would help though. I can only speak for myself, but I dont think I doubled up spells on one dude once the whole tourney.

Control vs control is always a slog in every card game. But I'm curious how often did you go to time with that deck? I know I did at least twice (against non-control).

I definitely feel 40 minutes is too short a round time. 50-55 minutes seems much more appropriate for a game like this, given how convoluted the game state can become and how many tough decisions have to be made on the fly.

@JDK002 I do think if spells were limited to one it would make cards like Kidnappin' and Ambush much more powerful. I would have a greater incentive to play it that's for sure. Decks that start with Valeria Batten and Leonardo "Leon" Cavallo can't just load valeria with 2 Paralysis Mark

In the tournament I did not go to time in any game other than with you in the swiss. This isn't truly a control deck, it just plays control/defensive until it can get its engine online and once that happens the game quickly spirals out of control in my favor. I saw some of the other Undertaker decks and I am surprised none of them jammed 4 Paralysis Mark. It works so well with the draw structure, combo, and buys you time to setup the combo. And definitely agree, 50 minutes or more is ideal. It was nice that the finals was not timed.
