I need to apologize - Number one, I had no expectation of this deck taking me to the finals, so I did not take notes. I will review the round by round and add comments.
PLAN: Get He Fang into town square with Holy Roller and do Behold White Bull for attrition.
FLAWS - a third of the deck fails the Holy Roller (and Censure) pulls, which may have contributed to how fast the final game ended. - off value clubs never go away, which is a struggle in long games. - no forced call out or jobs, and Sentinel is pretty slow for a game clock - Two Hundred Fifty Rounds and Great Sage Matching Heaven do not help you win fights, just makes losing less bad. (and super unfun interaction, being Harrowed and Holy Roller does not help the rest of the dudes in your posse) - Shi Long Peng is the only thing resembling a Plan B - and he will struggle to succeed on the Kung Fu Techniques.
a solid deck structure can only get you so far.

If the plan is Holy Roller + Behold White Bull and He Fang is your main dude to do it, do you need to run the full Tao if he can't combo? Great Sage Matching Heaven could become Faster on the Draw, and Two Hundred Fifty Rounds Pinned Down for example. |

Really like the off-value deed includes. Packing a The Joker's Smile is underutilized (and I think worth the spell failure). Yan Li's Tailoring obviously generally good, and does good stuff with the game plan. After thinking on the list a bit, I think I second the notion that the Behold White Bull isn't getting much support here from Two Hundred Fifty Rounds or Great Sage Matching Heaven, and they would be better as other cards. Pinned Down could be vicious given you're forcing casualties. For the same reason, I think I'd like some Pistol Whip to prevent their bullet catcher from catching those bullets. But IDK what I'd cut for it (the clubs are strained and Huckleberry obviously really good. Maybe just lose the Crystal Palace. On the note of the 7 deeds, I think I like Hunter Protections. You run enough deeds that you don't need a win con deed, but I feel like I like the threat of it (plus, if no other changes were made to this list, it give a location you control that's a threat for 250R comboing). |
Round one - Jordan (Starner) with the Anarchist Mirror Match. Jim Hexter able to get Stud by way of the Champion Miracle was unexpected. I was able to get the win with some luck shootout hands. Round Two - Harold (Agent006) brought the Serpentine Syndicate - and if I recall, I found a flood of deeds while he found a dearth of Hexes. Round Three - Daniel (Zenarchist) - Law Dogs did Law Dog things, and I was ill prepared for the level of fight that they brought. Round Four - Joe (Prodigy) suffered the ultimate indignity of cheating into a tied hand rank while I had I'm Your Huckleberry to choose his dude to be my casualty. Round Five - DeVon (Shekkyducky) got the first turn Kidnapping on He Fang - with two more miracles in hand, I defended to the last. One turn, all dead. Cut Round - Rematch against DeVon. This time no Kidnapping. And I got a deed turn one to move my game along. turns happen, day four or five we are in yet another fight and DeVon plays Murdered in Tombstone - a review of the 8 cards left in my deck identifies a legal four of a kind - which was enough since he could only muster a flush. Semis - Charles (Tybarsunsong) suffered the indignity of double jokers in opening lowball. No deeds came to his rescue, but cheap influence did. Final turn he has 13 influence to my 5 control. I take the fight to him and get hit with Coming Up Roses and take some lumps, but we kept up the struggle and I was able to last to time and win on the tie breaker. Final - Joe (Prodigy) with the Rematch. he got the dream hand of Baird's Build and Loan + General Store to open the game, and since I had no answers for Black Owl, I ceded control of Town Square. With Behold White Bull in hand he Fang with Ranger's Bible and a Holy Roller prayed to the House of Many Faiths and stepped into the buzzsaw. Failed the Holy Roller AND only found a three of a kind, He Fang swallowed SIX casualties and there was enough control on the board to cause concerns. Since I could not afford booted dudes, I had to walk them into town one at a time. First fight Jia Mien reveals a hidden Soul Blast and pops my dude. One at a time my deck provides no better than a three of a kind = good game joe.
