A Dead Man's Hand deck that I played in the Hartlepool (Hart's Tea Shoppe) Peacekeeper series event on 20th October. It came third.

In general, go for the Dead Man's Hand in shootouts: it comes up quite often, and when it doesn't you tend to get 5 of a kind, 4 of a kind, or a full house. You want to cycle the DMH cards as fast as you can, either play them (then don't pay upkeep for dudes), cycle them with Gomorra Lot Commission for the deeds, or just discard them at the end of the round.

Some combos: Longwei Fu and/or Forster Cooke combined with Buffalo Rifle can allow you to double-dip on shootouts in the town square, or any other adjacent location. Baijiu Jar can help John "Aces" Radcliffe become a stud.

  1. Ste B - Desolation Row

A really aggressive deck, with an attempted Kidnappin' happening on the first day within the first few turns! Fortunately for me, it turns out that 7 change 6 (John "Aces" Radcliffe was not a stud, though it did prevent any shootout actions from being played I think) still has a reasonable shot at a decent hand. Between that shootout, and a later one triggered by Curse of Failure, I was able to secure the win.

  1. Peter- Fort 51

The deck that came top 4 in Edinburgh. I was put on the back foot early, owing to only having 3 influence at the start. That meant I had to get in to shootouts earlier than I would have liked, and Peter was able to use Hydro-Puncher to boot my Pair of Six-Shooters and Quickdraw Handgun, knocking down my influence to the point where it fell below his control. Also, I misread John "Aces", and did not realise that having an equal number of cards in hand turns him into a draw. Loss.

  1. Jay - Bayou Vermilion Railroad

This one ended up with a massive shootout at Cliff's #4 Saloon, with me drawing something like 13 change 3. I think I got something like 4 DMH's in a row. Win.

I think this deck still needs some work, but the idea is sound. Baijiu Jar, Jim Hexter, and The Faceless One were awesome. Flight of the Lepus, Murdered in Tombstone and Five Aces Gambling Hall were not useful, and I think I need to swap them out.

Advice/comments/queries welcome!

I really like the Buffalo Rifle on Longwei & Forster. Why William Specks? I'd put Allie Hensman in that slot (especially considering the deed-light Hartlepool meta). I'm surprised Murdered in Tombstone wasn't useful.

Thanks for the list, report and in particular the thoughts on what worked/didn't work. Very helpful.

Nice to see The Faceless One cropping up outside Fearmongers and working well for you.

What's the view on Fleet-Footed? It's a new, versatile card that 8C didn't have before.

Ideas for replacements for Flight of the Lepus/Murdered in Tombstone, albeit I still like the latter:

The two work well together with the latter setting up the former. Or maybe Meet The New Boss to force the pace a little and thin your structure towards DMH?

Bravo on managing so many DMH and thanks again for the list + report. :)

@doomdog ah yes, that was another one I was going to swap out. I was thinking another faceless one though, so I can cycle it out next upkeep. Allie, though, while she would weaken my DMH structure a bit, she’s also a potential source of control points and/or forced shootouts. Also, I can send her home with Fleet-Footed.

As for Murdered In Tombstone, I think I’m confusing “was bad in one game(game 2, it was the play that turned Aces into a draw)” for “is bad”, something that I usually do the other way round (keeping a card in a deck because it was useful in one game, when I really should ditch it)

@harlath I really liked fleet-footed, it was useful every time it showed up in my hand, and cycled back into my deck easily.

Thinking about it later, I am probably better leaning more heavily into Murdered in Tombstone for my aces, it would mean I could run less cheatin’ resolutions. (With the base ability, Lady Luck was a bit redundant) I was thinking some Law Goes Underground for jacks, though you make a good point with Meet the New Boss.
